First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Medical College of Wisconsin.
Education Program Manager
The team I would have managed seemed indifferent or even hostile, with one person texting during the interview. The job description was vague, and the interview made it even less clear. I had to come back for several days for interviews. There was also a noticeable tension between the administration and the staff I was supposed to lead.
- What are your fears?
Program Manager
I applied for a middle-management administrative role. The work environment, pay, benefits, and location seem great. However, it was the most exhausting interview process ever. I had 5 visits and met with 14 people. I only met the hiring manager once for 30 minutes on the 4th visit. Most interviews were with HR and other pleasant administrators. Everyone seemed to take it seriously, but there might have been some issues between the hiring manager and those scheduling interviews. Also, despite a thorough job description, there was a significant disconnect between it and what everyone, including the hiring manager, understood the main responsibilities to be. This was all happening with the politics, egos, and territoriality of a large academic medical center going through rapid changes.
- Could you explain your frequent job changes over the last 15 years?
Program Manager
I started by talking to a recruiter, and then went through two more interviews with people from the team. I applied in February, and it took about two months for me to find out I didn't get the job. I was pretty bummed out when the recruiter just emailed me with the rejection, instead of one of the team members I'd actually connected with. It felt like a really generic email. When I tried to get some feedback on how I did to help me with future applications, I never heard back.
- Can you share your experience collaborating with teams across different departments?
