This interview experience was problematic from the start. The interview room lacked air conditioning, causing discomfort. I met with the head of Project Managers and a Senior PM who had only been at the company for about 1.5 years. They were vague when describing the role and the work environment. The company's business model, which relies on newspapers and ad-heavy content, seems questionable. The sample project assigned was uninspired and tedious. A significant portion of the day involved making calls to companies that the company apparently has a poor relationship with. The only part of the job requiring cognitive effort was a 30-minute creative writing task, where you had to write around 300 words on topics like health.

Had an initial chat, then a more involved interview that included a media kit presentation and practicing cold calls. About halfway through the interview with the two managers, it was clear that myself and everyone else were too good for this role, like calling businesses all day to push newspaper ads that are dying out anyway. It feels like a waste of time better spent elsewhere than Mediaplanet. The base salary is also only $30,000, which is really low even for a base+commission setup. The Business Development Manager asked some dumb questions that didn't even relate to the job.

The interview process at Mediaplanet was a positive experience, with the people there being really great. The first round involved meeting with two business development managers. It was a pretty standard interview where they asked typical questions about my goals (both long and short term), sales and marketing experience, and my background. We also talked a lot about the specifics of the role and the company's culture. The second round was more involved, and this time I met with three people. They gave me a research project to complete, which I then had to present for about 15-20 minutes. After the presentation, we had a more traditional interview session.
