First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MediaMarkt.
Sales Assistant
When I arrived for my interview at MediaMarkt, the store manager met me and took me to a small office. The department manager was also there, and they were both friendly and pretty relaxed. I was asked to introduce myself briefly – who I am, what I've done so far, and why I'm interested in MediaMarkt. Then, they asked specific questions about typical sales situations: how I talk to customers, how I handle complaints, and my comfort level with technical products. The questions were clearly structured to see if I'd fit the team and if I have the right customer service skills. They also explained how the department is organized and what's most important in daily work. The atmosphere was pleasant, open, and pressure-free – more of a conversation than a strict interview. After covering the main points, we briefly discussed the terms like working hours and responsibilities. The interview then concluded, and they mentioned they would be in touch soon.
- The most important question was about how you deal with customers, especially in tough situations. Specifically, they wanted to know: "How do you respond when a customer is unhappy or complains?" This question was key because it really shows how you approach sales, whether you stay calm, think about solutions, and empathize with customers – which is what they valued most in the interview.
HR Manager
The hiring process usually begins with a phone call for an initial screening. After that, there's a first in-person meeting with the direct supervisor, focusing on customer focus, product knowledge, and your motivation. Often, there's a second meeting with higher management, which looks at strategic aspects and cultural fit, sometimes including case studies or practical assignments. Passion for electronics, strong communication skills, and an understanding of the consumer market are important. The goal is to assess your suitability for direct customer contact and your ability to explain complex products simply, before a job offer is made.
- How does the company support employees in learning new skills or developing internally?
Commercial Controller
The interview process involved 1 screening interview, followed by 2 more interviews. The first was with my direct manager, and the second was a joint interview with the HR director and the controlling director at their office. While the interviews themselves were pleasant, I received no feedback afterwards. Overall, the experience was quite negative because of the lack of communication post-interview; even a simple 'No' would have been appreciated, but silence was the only response.
- Can you describe the biggest career challenge you've encountered?
Software Engineer
I went through a hiring process for a Senior Software Engineer role at Media Markt Germany. It dragged on for more than a month with several interview stages. A big part was a take-home project that involved building two microservices, and it had to be done in under a week. Honestly, this took me about 10-20 hours, which is a lot for someone already working full-time. Then, in the next interview, I had to present my take-home project to five people. They seemed okay with my work, but one person asked about my controller setup, like why I didn't just put everything in one controller. I explained it was due to the Single Responsibility Principle (SRP), but they seemed to think SRP meant one function per file. I had to explain what SRP actually is, which made me wonder about their tech knowledge and how things are done there. Even though they didn't really find fault with my project, they still rejected me, saying I was 'not open to feedback'. It felt like they don't like it when you question them, even if you have good reasons. I guess challenging someone who's unsure about their spot can cost you the job. I wouldn't suggest this interview experience if you want something fair.
- Can you explain why you chose to implement multiple controllers?
- Could you elaborate on your rationale for structuring the controllers in that manner?
