First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mediacom Communications.
Internet Support Technician
The interview is about an hour and a half long and involves around 7 questions. We'll be using Microsoft Teams for this part, and the questions will focus on scenarios like dealing with a difficult customer, going the extra mile, and using your technical support skills. After that, we'll chat about the overall job process and what the company offers.
- Could you share an instance of when you handled a difficult client?
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.
- How have you applied your skills in a technical support capacity?
Recruiter
The interview process started with a phone interview with the current recruiter, then a panel interview, followed by an interview with customer service, then an interview with the local HR Manager, then another phone interview with remote HR, and then two more interviews. After my 4th interview, with the HR Manager, I was offered a 5th interview over the phone. After that interview, I'd spent nearly 4 hours interviewing. About a week later, I got a no-reply email saying I wasn't being considered. The whole process was super long and took up a lot of time, ending with a weird auto-generated rejection email. It felt really unprofessional and not like other companies I've dealt with. I'd say to skip this company.
- Can you share an instance where you faced multiple deadlines? How did you manage your priorities in such situations?
Manager
So this process of interviewing with mediacom was VERY extensive, never before have i went through as many steps before knowing my place. So this is the lists of interviews i went through. 1) HR Phone Screen Interview 2) Immediate Boss Interview 3) Immediate Boss' Boss and SR HR Interview 4) Imediat Boss' Boss' Boss Via Video Conference 5) Interview with 2 Corporate HR Via Video Conference 6) Interview with the Daughter In The Family Who Owns Mediacom and another HR Person I met with a total of 9 people in this interview process and its crazy because the position i applied for i would not think would warrant so many to need to speak with me but it was all worth it in the end. From what i have gathered was i was a locally chosen candidate for the job but before they can proceed they must get Corporate Approval. I must say meeting with the Daughter of the family who runs mediacom was great, she added alot to my overall perception of the job because she really does care about the people working for her and the customers mediacom has. After good feedback was given from all the corp levels then i was contacted back from local HR with Offer :-)

Human Resources Manager
Applied online and got a call from the HR Director for the region a few days later to set up a phone interview for 2 days later. The Director called on time and mentioned they would conference in a Recruiter from another location, and they would alternate asking me questions. The phone screening lasted about 45 minutes and was quite challenging. They first asked what I knew about the company, then it was all behavioral questions related to Human Resources. Near the end, the Director mentioned they might be in my city in two weeks and asked about my availability for a meeting if I was selected for an interview, without confirming if I'd get a face-to-face interview. I inquired about Mediacom's hiring steps and was told that after the phone interview, there would be a face-to-face with the HR Director, followed by interviews with 3 Operations Managers from the 3 locations the HRM job would cover, then possibly a video conference with someone in another office, and potentially flying to Iowa to meet the VP. A week later, the HR Director called to invite me for an interview the following week at the local office. My interview with the HRD at the local office lasted about 50 minutes, then I went to a conference room for a video interview with the recruiter who was on the initial phone interview, which lasted about 45 more minutes. Both interviews that day mostly repeated questions from my phone interview with some new behavioral questions about HR. As the HRD was walking me out, they mentioned I needed to meet with the Operations Manager for that location after the video conference, but they were unavailable, so I was told I'd have to return for that and do another video interview on a different day. I didn't proceed further in the process to share more details. They seem like a good company, but their interview process is extremely thorough and lengthy.
- I'm going to tell you why I think you're not qualified for this position, and then you can tell me why you think I'm wrong.
- This interviewer explained their reasons for thinking I was not qualified for the job, and then asked me to explain why they were mistaken.
- Given my interviewer's opinions on why I might not be the right fit for this role, I was challenged to provide a counter-argument.
