Technical Coding

This is a young organization, so the interview process was what you might expect from people who haven't done many interviews. After a phone screen, I met with the Dev Mgr, CTO, and a Developer. The CTO (who is in his mid-20s) and the other developer did most of the talking, which is a red flag in an interview. I found it hard to relate my experience to their points because they were talking so much. The technical interview was pretty standard and focused on recursion. The questions were straight out of a college CS textbook, so brush up on your algorithms. Also, read the company reviews to understand what current employees and owners think, and take it seriously.

Technical Coding Presentation

The interview process started with a phone call, then moved to two in-person interview rounds. I was asked to complete a homework project where I had to create a simple JSON and XML transformation web service. I spent about 8 hours on my own time, working at night, to build a working sample in AWS to show during the final interviews. In total, including interview and homework time, I invested about 16 hours in this company. They said my solution was great and they were impressed. However, after all that, they rejected me because the role's requirements changed during the interview process, and I was no longer a good fit. Such a waste of time and resources.

Technical Coding Behavioral

The interview process was Phone screen, then a Tech screen, then a Project, and finally a Whiteboard interview. I didn't make it past the phone screen though. The interviewer kept saying 'perfect' to my answers, which made me feel like I was being screened out. I suspect they might be looking for a local native speaker, or someone who's a 'strong cultural fit'.
