First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MealPal.
Software Engineer
Did a take-home coding test in Ruby, took me a while since I had to learn Ruby coming from Express.js. Then had a 2-hour final interview with several team members and one of the CEOs, could do it in-person or remote. It was a good process, they said I did well but someone else had more experience.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your career path?
Software Engineer
So the interview started with a quick 10-minute behavioral chat, pretty standard stuff. After that, I got into the technical part. It involved a case study where I had to figure out how to let users log in on a website using HTML and SQL. It wasn't too difficult, but I didn't end up getting the role, probably because there were a lot of applicants. I also think not using React, which is what they mainly use, might have been a factor. But overall, it wasn't a bad experience.
- Can you build a React component that accepts a full name and phone number?
- Could you also create a Rails API endpoint to accept this data, validate it, and then save it?
Software Engineer
The first interview was with a co-founder, mostly behavioral questions. Then, I did a coding project about restful APIs. The last round was a virtual meeting with the team.
