Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McLean Hospital.
Research Assistant
The interview wasn't too long and felt pretty conversational. They shared a good amount of info about the job and were upfront about the pay. They asked some standard questions, such as for an example of when I faced and overcame a challenge.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered and overcame a difficult situation?
Research Assistant
It was a 20-30 minute phone screening. They asked me to walk through my resume and then about five or six behavioral questions. These were about group and individual research projects, and difficulties in working with past patients, etc.
- Tell me about a situation where you struggled in group work and how you resolved it.
- Describe challenges you faced working with previous patients.
Research Assistant
Had one initial phone interview with one of the PIs, then a follow-up interview with 3 PIs all at once. Then I was invited back for a lab tour and met with 2 of the PIs again for a short interview. Overall it was a pretty positive and standard experience for lab tech interviews.
- Can you tell me about your research experience and projects?
- What are your career goals for the next 3-5 years?
- What motivates your interest in research?
