It started with a quick 30-minute chat with the recruiter about my background. After that, they sent over a coding project to do in a programming language I like. Once I finished that, I had another interview with two engineering managers where we talked about system design and they asked me to explain my project choices.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain the distinction between an abstract class and an interface?
  • Could you tell me about your reasoning behind the project's implementation decisions?

Got contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn and applied through her. The next morning, there was a phone screening. The following day, I had a video screening with the hiring manager and set up the final interview for next Monday with the Synapse team. The final interview involved behavioral questions with three team members, followed by a technical interview with another three team members. It was a really positive experience, not too difficult. Honestly, it's one of the best interview processes I've encountered. For the technical part, they told me to treat it like a normal workday where I could use Google, Stack Overflow, API documentation, or anything else I needed to complete the tasks. It's basically peer programming, so communication about my thought process is key.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Questions about data structures and algorithms.
  • Discussed Binary Tree Traversal.
  • Explored API design.

The interview process was quite lengthy and felt like a chore. It involved multiple phone screens and video calls, culminating in a full panel technical interview. During the paired programming exercise, I was expected to collaborate with the developers, but it felt like they were unresponsive. The entire exercise could have been completed by generating code templates for basic CRUD operations without writing much code. Ironically, asking questions and seeking opinions during this paired programming, which was supposedly encouraged, was perceived negatively as a sign of lacking confidence. While the managers conducted themselves professionally and were reasonable, the developers' behavior was unprofessional. I suspect the setup was designed for me to fail, especially since paired programming isn't typical for generating basic CRUD code templates. Despite this, I was offered another technical interview due to being 'liked,' but I declined, having already invested too much time.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Can you explain basic OOP concepts?
  • Describe how to carry out basic CRUD actions.
