First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McDermott Will & Schulte.
Manager
Had a call with HR, then went through 4 interviews, all happened within a month. After that, they just ghosted me and didn't respond to emails asking for updates. It was really rude and unprofessional. If this is how they treat candidates, I doubt they're much better once you're hired.
- Can you explain how you make decisions?
Trainee Solicitor
The interview process involved three main stages. First, there was an interview with a Partner, which covered both competency-based questions and questions specific to the firm. Second, a group panel interview was conducted, offering an opportunity to ask questions to the firm's Partners. Finally, a written assessment was required, focusing on a question related to a commercial issue.
- What are your reasons for applying to McDermott Will and Emery?
Litigation Assistant
If recruiting staff selects you for an initial interview, they'll reach out. If they pick you, there are two 30-minute interviews with partners. The first interview is with litigation team members who work with attorneys, conducted via video conference. After introductions, they'll ask you to present yourself. It's best to keep it brief so they can ask questions within the 30 minutes. If the first interview goes well, they will contact you later for a second interview, also via video conference, with relevant partners based on your location.
- Could you share details about your educational background and work history?
- What skills do you possess that could be beneficial for this position?
- Are you familiar with proper citation methods?
Marketing Specialist
The interview process had six rounds, and then they ghosted me. It's unprofessional and rude, and if that's how they treat candidates, then I'm actually happy things didn't go anywhere. The interviewers were okay, though some seemed disinterested. They all asked the same canned questions, which made it difficult for me to showcase my expertise in a nuanced way.
- How do you handle competing priorities and tight deadlines?
