First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Maxim Integrated.
Applications Engineer
So it was a pretty standard interview process. It started with a recruiter call where they talked about the job and asked me some basic stuff. Then, I had a phone screen with the hiring manager, followed by another phone screen with one of his team members. After that, they invited me for an onsite interview. The travel was handled well, and the office space was nice. Everyone I met during the onsite was friendly and knew their stuff. I think I met with about 6 or 7 people and it lasted pretty much all day, which was tough. They seemed to focus a lot on their specific area, but they covered a lot of ground in the interviews: personality, technical skills, past experiences, asking for specific examples of accomplishments, how to handle difficult situations, creativity, and teamwork.
- Can you solve this tricky puzzle or brain-teaser?
- Tell me about your personality.
- What's your technical knowledge like?
Applications Engineer
The interview was about an hour long. It started as a phone interview and then we switched to Google Hangouts for the technical part. The first part was like a casual chat to get to know each other. The hiring manager was really nice and helpful. He was curious about my interest in engineering and technology. He asked about my past work and a project I did last summer. He also asked about my favorite class and why I chose engineering. The second part was about basic engineering concepts, like circuits and how different components affect them. The interviewer cared more about my thought process for solving problems than just the final answer.
- Could you explain the concept of the voltage follower you drew with negative feedback?
- What effect do inductors and capacitors have on the voltage output of a circuit?
Field Applications Engineer
I went through several rounds of interviews. I had to keep nudging the hiring manager to keep things moving. The interviews themselves were okay. My problem is that after the last interview (with the 5th person), they ghosted me without any feedback or closure.
- What are your salary expectations
