Assistant Store Manager
First, I had a phone screen interview. Then, I went in for an in person interview. They asked basic questions about my background and skills. They also asked a few questions about different sales scenarios that could happen in the store and how I'd respond.
- Could you share your strengths and weaknesses?
- Can you tell me about your background and skills?
- How would you respond to various sales scenarios that might arise in the store?
Store Manager
I saw this manager job online and applied. I think there was a math and personality test first. Then, a HR person called me for a 20 minute phone interview. They asked about my sales and customer service background. After that, I had an interview with the District Manager (DM). I had to dress in business attire for this 40 minute interview. The DM used a pre-made list of questions based on my online test. He kept mentioning when I'd hear back, no matter the outcome. The HR person was professional and nice. The DM was also friendly, but really young and seemed inexperienced. He mentioned he was new to his role. Turns out the 'manager' position is just one person in a store doing sales, no real leadership involved. His interview style was just reading questions and listening. What really bothered me was he promised a callback before Tuesday, saying he doesn't like making people wait. When I didn't hear back on Tuesday, I called him late that night. He said they were still in a meeting deciding and there was some disagreement. He said I'd have an answer in an hour, but I never heard anything back, even though he invited me to call. I feel like this shows poor communication between people in charge and that customers/sales could be lost because of a lack of follow-through from management, especially since it's commission-based.
- Can you tell me about an area where you believe you could improve?
- What is one area of personal development you are focusing on?
Store Manager
First, a phone chat with talent acquisition. After that, a 2-4 person panel interview. It's going to be an Area Manager or two and one to two District Managers. They will talk about how it's a Texas company and talk about advancement opportunity, then ask questions about your resume. Standard stuff.
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness?
- What would you consider your greatest strength?
- How would you deal with an angry customer?
