First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Matter Communications.
Account Coordinator
it was easy but the person I spoke to didn't seem like they wanted to be there, not sure about the company it seemed fine but not the best fit for me. I might consider interviewing in the future though after I've talked to other local agencies.
- Can you tell me about your PR experience?
- What's your knowledge of the media landscape?
Account Executive
I had an initial screening call with HR, and then I went in for in-person interviews with the recruiter and 4 managers. The recruiter was pretty rude, which was surprising. I mentioned I'd been interested in Matter for a while, and she said, 'well yeah, that's what most people say about working here...' She was very distant and didn't seem engaged. Meeting her first made me feel uneasy for the rest of the interviews. Matter is a really sought-after PR firm, and they act like it. After meeting the team, I was way less interested. Their whole 'we're better than you' and intimidating vibe isn't something I want to be part of.
- What are some typical interview questions?
Account Manager
The interview process at Matter involved five interviews, with three of them being panel interviews. I was ultimately rejected without receiving any feedback. The interviews were spread out over several weeks, with about one interview per week. This felt like a waste of my time, especially since I was rejected. It seems like they don’t prioritize applicants' time or manage expectations well. The pay is also lower than the industry standard, though I was willing to overlook that because the agency appears to be stable.
- Were there any basic interview questions asked?
- Were the team members connecting, or were you asked the same question multiple times?
Account Coordinator
Great interview experience! Quick phone screening with basic questions then you move on to an interview where you’ll meet your potential teammates to learn more about their experience. During the second round, I was asked about my experience, how I would handle certain situations, and was able to open up the interview to be more conversational rather than Q&A style.
- What resources would you utilize to stay updated on news relevant to the client's industry, and which sources would you prioritize checking first?
