First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MathWorks.
UX Designer
I applied online and then had an initial assessment on HireVue with some basic behavioural questions. After that, a UX Manager called me for a video interview where I had to answer some questions and then present one of my portfolio projects. The final round was a phone call with the EDG manager, focusing on behavioural questions. The whole experience was good, and I got an offer about a week after the last round.
- Can you describe a time you developed a solution that you later had to revise because it wasn't effective?
UX Researcher
I applied a while back and the recruiter asked me to answer a bunch of questions about my technical background. A few weeks later, I was able to set up a screening call with the recruiter, which went well. I tried to follow up with my recruiter about the next steps for over a month and a half before I just stopped trying (I sent one follow-up email every week and a half). I was completely ghosted, which was a little disappointing because I had done a few coffee chats with current employees that I really liked and that made me genuinely interested in the company. I've never had a recruiter ignore my emails before, which sadly left a bad taste. I get it if the role was no longer available or if they went with someone else, I just wanted a response to know.
- Do you know Mathworks' products?
User Experience Designer
The interview process was really tough. They gave me a design exercise and I had to do multiple rounds with different team members TWICE! But their rejection process was the worst. I was ghosted after spending 3 weeks and about 8 rounds of interviews and presentations, doing work that was better than their own product. I had to check their system to find out I was rejected, even though they said they'd email me. They also didn't give me any feedback. It felt like a total waste of time and was a bit unethical.
- Can you describe your UX design process?
