Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MathWorks.
Technical Writer
The interview process included a technical exam with probability questions. I also did a coding challenge in Matlab, which was fairly simple multiple-choice questions about syntax. Then there was a video interview with standard questions like "why do you want to work here?" and "tell us about your experiences."
- Could you provide examples of your technical writing work?
- Can you share your experience with probability questions?
- Describe your experience with the Matlab coding challenge, including the types of syntax questions asked.
Technical Writer
This was a lengthy hiring process. They were very specific about the skills required and had numerous assignments to evaluate my capabilities. However, the team and the work environment felt very welcoming during my on-site interviews. I believe this experience will be worth all the demanding tests. The duration of the process felt a bit long for me, but I can say it eventually paid off.
- Can you tell me about the features of Matlab?
Technical Writer
It was a multi-stage process. I had three phone interviews, one with the hiring manager, one with HR, and one with a technical fellow. Then there was a face-to-face interview that included a presentation, lunch, and about five hours of questions.
