MathWorks Technical Support Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

I first applied online and got an email for a 30 min phone chat. It was mostly about my resume, skills, and why I wanted the job. A week later, I had a 1-hour technical phone interview. It had four parts: math, C programming/OOP, control theory, and MATLAB/Simulink. If you passed that, you'd get invited for an in-person interview at the company that lasts 4 hours. You'd meet a bunch of people from support, application teams, HR, and other team members. Two department heads would ask about your background, motivation, how you'd deal with customers, and your strengths/weaknesses. Then, a quick chat with HR. After that, another written test on math, C programming, control theory, and Simulink. Finally, you'd meet potential teammates and see the workplace.

I applied online and heard back from an HR in 2-3 days. The hiring manager then called me for about 40 minutes of behavioral questions. Three days later, another HR reached out to schedule a technical interview, which I set up for three days after that. The technical interview covered signal processing, C, Maths, and Matlab, and I felt I did okay, answering about 80% of the questions. After that, I was selected for an on-site interview. However, two days later, the hiring manager informed me I wasn't moving forward, without giving a specific reason.

I applied online and after more than two weeks, I got a call for the internship position as a Technical Support. The EDG of the company interviewed me and asked general questions about my previous internship, group work, conflict resolution in a group, handling multiple projects, and tool usage. They also asked about my overall job search progress. Then, a Technical Phone Interview was scheduled. The interviewer also sent an email stating the interview would be about 40 minutes and cover basic math (discrete math, algorithm theory, probability, Big Oh notation), programming concepts (syntax, program flow), and a choice of programming languages (C or C++, Java or MATLAB), with a requirement for one object-oriented language (understanding C++ syntax, structure, compilation, and OOP concepts if chosen). Non-technical questions would also be included. I'll share more after the phone interview.
