Industry Manager
I was first reached out to by someone from HR via email. They asked me a few questions which I responded to by email. Then, the head of the team emailed me to request a phone call. We ended up talking on the phone for about 25 minutes.
- Do you have any experience in this field within the US?
- Were you familiar with MATLAB Coder?
- How do you utilize MATLAB and/or SIMULINK in your research?
Development Manager
It began with three initial screening calls. Following that, there were in-house discussions along with a presentation. The presentation, lasting an hour, was set between multiple rounds of discussions. There were two discussion rounds before the presentation and four after, with each one-on-one discussion lasting about an hour. The overall experience was quite good; all the panel members were cordial, friendly, and very professional. The entire process went smoothly, and I was impressed by their professionalism. The discussions covered problem-solving, algorithms, data structures, SDLC, behavioral aspects, and processes. The goal was to gauge the candidate's depth in these areas and their overall suitability. It was both an enjoyable and a learning experience.
- Can you discuss graph theory, linked lists, and vectors?
- Why are you interested in joining our company?
- How have you handled conflicts?
Manager
This process seemed backwards and a bit awkward from the get go. After applying online, I was first contacted by the hiring manager and had an initial call with him that seemed to go well. I was then contacted by their recruiting team, with a form email that made it seem like they were not aware of the conversation I had with the hiring manager. I then spoke with one of the corporate recruiters who asked a variety of generic interview questions with zero reference to the previous conversation I had had with the much more knowledgeable and engaged hiring manager. After these two calls, I never heard back... No courtesy email informing me they were not moving forward, and no response at all to my follow up email. Very unprofessional - I know it's 2019, but ghosting people shouldn't be an MO for any company. For an organization full of such smart people, they have a lot work to do on their recruitment process.
- Can you tell me about your greatest challenge?
