Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MathWorks.
Associate Engineer
The interview process had four rounds. We started with an online assessment (OA) and Hirevue, which were sent right after applying. The OA had LeetCode medium and hard problems, plus some multiple-choice questions. The Hirevue was pretty short and asked basic HR-type questions. Then, I had a manager screening where I met with the EDG manager to go over the job basics and ask questions. The final round was a four-hour virtual power day. It included a two-hour technical interview with an EDG engineer, featuring a LeetCode medium/hard DP problem and a systems design question. After that, I spent an hour with the manager again to discuss the role in more detail. Finally, I had an hour-long meeting with the recruiter.
- Can you share an instance where you had a conflict with a coworker?
- Why do you think you are a strong candidate for this role?
Associate Engineer
The aptitude round had about 4-5 sections. Most sections had 8-12 questions, but the coding section only had 2 questions. The test was conducted on Hackerrank. Topics covered included numerical reasoning, math, data structures and algorithms (DSA), object-oriented programming (OOPs), and coding. All sections except for coding were multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
- I was not shortlisted for the interview round.
Associate Engineer
It started with a Group Discussion, then there were three technical rounds, each being an elimination round. We also had two behavioral rounds and one coding round. The first behavioral interview was conducted by HR, and the second by a Manager. The coding round had two algorithmic questions, ranging from medium to hard difficulty.
- Could you explain how you prioritize your tasks?
- Can you tell me about your internship experience and the work you did there?
- Which areas are you most interested in, and what domain would you prefer to join at Mathworks?
