First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Materion.
Process Engineer
Applied online, then got a call from HR for a phone screen. After that, I talked to the plant manager. The final round was an in-person interview that lasted 3 hours and involved meeting with 4 different groups of people. A red flag was when the plant manager asked about my 5-year plan and reacted negatively to my interest in pursuing a master's degree, stating she wouldn't increase pay for it.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
Process Engineer
Got a message from HR to set up an interview call. Had a call with HR, and she set up an interview with the Manager. The Manager conducted a 15-minute phone interview and then invited me to visit the company. HR then scheduled a company visit where I met with 6 people for about 3 hours; it all went really well, and the people were very kind and smart. Had a final call with HR, the Hiring Manager, and the Plant Manager. Received an offer from HR. Completed the background check, drug test, and physical exam. After everything cleared, I got an email from HR with my start date.
- Can you share details about your past experience and any projects you've worked on?
- What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
- What motivated you to apply to Materion?
Process Engineer
It was a pretty standard process. Started with a recruiter screen, then I had three 45-minute interviews with some engineers. Didn't get an offer though. They told me I apparently have "too much of an attitude to learn" and should "be more confident in my skills." Which is fair, but honestly a bit odd for an entry-level position, in my opinion.
- Can you explain stress-strain curves?
- Describe unit vectors within a crystal structure.
- Provide an example of an FCC material.
