First up was a phone interview, basically an intake questionnaire. If you've taught before, the questions are pretty standard. They let me know within a week if I was moving on. Then, I got an email from their hiring platform asking for an in-person demo lesson (that's the second interview). It was really structured, telling me the time, place, grade, and subject. They also gave me a super helpful guide on how to prep, rubrics for good demo lessons, and the whole process rundown, including directions and parking info. They even provided lesson plan templates. I showed up super early for the demo interview. I met the Principal, got a quick overview of the day, met another leader (the teacher whose class I'd be taking over for about 20-25 minutes), and then did the lesson. After that, I debriefed with the Principal, got feedback (good stuff and things to work on). He explained the rest of the process: he'd recommend me to the recruitment team, and they'd contact me. We talked pretty openly, which I guess depends on the principal. I was told I'd hear back in about 3 weeks, but got an offer two days later. Then, they set up a call to go over the offer details.

You need to apply online at mastercharterschools.com. After applying online and answering essay questions, if recruiting believes you have met the requirements, you will be asked to do an interview. They email you the instructions on what is needed to interview, which is a 5 min demo lesson. If you do well on the interview, you will be asked to do a demo lesson. An email will be sent as well with the instructions. When the demo lesson is complete, recruiting will at this point check your references and hopefully call you the next day with an offer for employment.

The recruiter was late and didn't apologize, which gave me a preview of the company culture. Despite reading bad reviews, I was surprised by how obvious the poor culture was so early on. They base salary on the highest degree, which I found out before any questions were asked. This approach misses good candidates by not considering all their experiences. The recruiter's tone was off-putting. I'm glad we agreed not to move forward, as they probably already had someone in mind. They hurried through questions and rushed me when I asked my own at the end.
