Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
Civil Engineer
I went through a standard interview with two senior folks. They asked me behavioral and basic technical questions, and I also had to complete a short quiz. The interview itself was pretty chill and easy. You gotta have patience though, as they take a while to respond. Unfortunately, the salary was way below market, so I had to turn down the offer. All in all, it was a good interview experience.

Civil Engineer
I interviewed for a civil engineer position at the Lenox office, specifically for District 1. The interview involved two interviewers who asked a series of 6-8 questions. Some of these were challenging technical questions. Both interviewers were very friendly and understanding when I had trouble recalling some of my answers.
- Can you explain your process for estimating cut or fill volumes on a roadway segment?
Civil Engineer
I went through 2 interviews and then I was hired within a month. The process takes quite a bit longer than 2 months for most employment. I interviewed with a panel of 4 senior engineers working in the department.
