Administrative Assistant
Applied for a job at MSO, felt very qualified with over 5 years of admin experience. Got a phone call about a week after submitting my resume. They asked me to come in the following Monday. The phone interview went well and they told me who I'd meet. When I arrived, I waited almost an hour. Then they led me upstairs to interview with someone else. Both interviewers were HR people. The main interviewer seemed boring. Saw an employee getting yelled at in a glass conference room on my way out. Never heard back about the job, and a friend who works there now says the pay is bad.
- Why are you a strong fit for this role?
Editor
I emailed back and forth a lot with HR and the hiring manager before coming in. I sent them my portfolio, and they asked me to come in for an interview. It was a pretty chill but informative interview, and the hiring manager really made sure I knew I could reach out with any questions. Then, I got an edit test, which is normal for editor jobs, and I had a week to do it. I immediately sent a thank you note and then pretty much worked on the test non-stop, making sure it was unique, stylish, fit the Martha Stewart vibe, and was well-done. I put at least 15 hours into it. I sent it back on the due date and emailed to confirm they got it. The hiring manager said they got it and would be in touch. Over the next two months, I sent a few short emails to check in and see if they'd made a decision. Nothing. Finally, I emailed the HR rep, who told me they had actually hired someone already. It was super disappointing to put so much work into an edit test, wait two months (I thought maybe management changes were holding things up), and then not even get an email to say I didn't get the job. It really left me with a bad impression of how professional MS Weddings is. Too bad for them because I'm really good at what I do. Oh well.
- Can you describe your personal aesthetic?
- What current responsibilities do you have that would be relevant to this role?
Specialist
I got recruited on site at my previous job, and they brought me in for my people skills. Had a phone call with the VP, then they asked me to visit the office location they were moving into to keep the process going and meet with HR.
- Did you have technical questions about Mac OS?
- Did you have general support questions?
- Were you told about the IT department's philosophy at the time?
Intern
The process was quite informal and not very structured. An HR person contacted me and set up a meeting for later that week. I then spoke with my potential manager. The conversation was very relaxed, and they didn't have many questions for me. It felt more like a tour, and since they didn't have much to say, I ended up doing most of the talking.
