Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mars.
Sales Representative
I had my first interview over the phone with the recruiter, who was super nice. Then, I had a second interview with a panel via Teams, mostly situational questions. I prepped by setting up a background with Royal Canin products and doing market research in different pet stores. I gave strong answers that tied into my experience at shelters and previous sales roles. In the end, they called to say the position was going to an internal candidate. I get that companies have to interview external people even with an internal candidate, but it would be nice if they clarified upfront whether they're still open to external applicants in that situation. It felt like a waste of time and effort for everyone involved.

Sales Operations
It was a long process that took a while to get through, with not much communication or confirmation from the team. It was unclear how long it would take and who was involved. It did give me time to get ready for the interviews. The questions were really vague and it wasn't clear what they were looking for.

Sales
Got contacted by a recruiter on Handshake about several openings. I applied for a strategic sales internship and then got to the HireVue stage. The HireVue was pretty straightforward and allowed me to discuss my accomplishments. After that, I had two virtual interviews: one with two people for a specific team, and another for a different part of Mars. The interview questions were fair, and one interviewer even structured their whole interview around my resume. The interviewers were really nice and encouraging, making me feel good about my performance. I'd love to work with them again!
