First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marley Spoon.
Machine Learning Engineer
The hiring process usually involves these steps: First, an HR call. Then, a chat with the Hiring Manager. After that, there's a take-home assignment that you have a week to finish. Finally, a technical round with two engineers to go over your solution, and then some rounds for cultural fit with the CTO, team members, and a few managers.
- What's your approach to developing and deploying a new feature?
- When deploying a feature, would you prioritize exhaustive testing to eliminate all potential bugs, or opt for a release with initial tests and then address bugs post-production?
Supply Chain Manager
It was a long process, with 5 rounds. The first round was a video interview with questions that I had to submit beforehand. The second round was an online interview with the hiring managers, focusing on my professional experience. The third round involved an online skills assessment. Then, the fourth round was an online interview with people from different departments to see if I would be a cultural fit. Finally, the fifth round was an online interview with the CEO.
- Can you tell me about your experience dealing with supply chain disruptions?
- What strategies do you employ to address and reduce supply disruptions stemming from unreliable forecast reports?
Software Developer
The hiring process was extremely slow and disrespectful. I had two bad experiences with Marley Spoon's hiring teams and don't recommend sending them your resume or doing their poorly designed challenge. They claim the challenge takes 3-4 hours, but it requires building a Next.js app from scratch with two views and integrating a GraphQL API, which is unrealistic. Companies that value candidates limit the scope of these challenges. The challenge was requested shortly after the HR call without prior technical screening, which is a red flag showing low commitment. My first attempt resulted in being told the position was filled, even though my work wasn't reviewed. After complaining, I got a superficial review focusing on minor code style issues. Years later, I applied again. The process was a mess, including a missed technical interview where the hiring team didn't show up. It was rescheduled for a week later and went well, with positive feedback on design choices and FE/full-stack topics. However, another week passed without contact, and when I inquired, they replied another week later with a rejection, offering no feedback on my technical interview. Due to their sluggishness and lack of respect, I won't apply again and will share my experience.
- Can you explain your approach to the challenge?
- Let's debug a small issue in the code you submitted.
Data Scientist
The entire hiring process, from the initial contact to the final decision, spanned an extensive six months. This prolonged duration significantly diminished my interest and made me question my initial motivation for applying. Despite being placed on hold for extended periods, indicating a lack of urgent interest from their end, I was still asked to remain patient. The interview process itself was quite conventional, involving numerous steps that seemed unnecessary. However, the underlying objective appeared to be hiring a junior candidate to minimize expenses.
