First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marks & Spencer.
Sales Assistant
The interview was pretty short, around 20 minutes. They wanted to know about my past work experience and how I deal with various workplace scenarios, plus my availability. They also asked about my approach to new brands and how I'd help a customer find the right skincare routine.
- Can you share a current trend in the beauty industry?
Sales Assistant
The interview was super chill and easy. They asked me about my customer service background, if I could be a team player, and how I'd deal with tough customers. The person interviewing me also went over the M&S values and asked why I was interested in this specific role. It felt more like a chat than anything, and they seemed keen to know if I'd fit their customer-first vibe.
- Can you share an instance where you provided excellent customer service?
- What motivates your interest in joining M&S?
- Describe a situation where you gave great customer service.
Retail Sales Assistant
So first, I did an online assessment that gave me some personalized feedback. After that, there was a group interview, though they mentioned it's often a 1-on-1. Since it was a new store, they were hiring a lot of people. They covered the basics and then set up a 1-on-1 with someone from the hiring team. We talked, they asked questions, and I got to ask my own. I got a job offer pretty quickly after that, and we discussed my schedule and any support I might need. Then there was a two-day training in Exeter to really get the business direction and the role. They also made it clear early on that they promote a good work-life balance. On my first shift, I was introduced to a 'buddy' or a senior rep who would help with any questions or issues. Managers are always available too.
