& Process

The interview process started with an on-campus recruiting event, where the first round was with a Partner. Soon after, HR contacted me about a second round, offering several date options and asking about my preference for tax or audit, as well as my dietary needs. The second round, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM, began with introductions to associate 'buddies'. We then attended a conference room presentation about the firm and received a detailed schedule for the day. Around 11 AM, the buddies led us to our first interview with a Partner in either tax or audit, depending on our earlier preference. This interview involved technical questions and a review of my resume. Next, I met with a manager for a more conversational interview, where I could ask about the firm. Subsequent interviews with a senior and another Partner were also conversational, focusing on getting to know me personally, including my hobbies. They emphasized that as students, we would receive thorough training. Lunch followed, with associates sharing their experiences at MP. They also mentioned their overtime policy, a positive aspect in accounting. The final stage involved meeting with HR to discuss offers, deadlines, and any remaining questions about the firm. Marks Paneth's organization stood out compared to other firms. I received an offer the day after this second round.

The interview process felt pretty relaxed and organized. I learned about the company from a classmate and then applied for their on-campus interviews. A key difference with Marks Paneth compared to other firms is that they send a partner for initial on-campus interviews, unlike many others who send HR. The partner I spoke with had a structured sheet for notes, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but the conversation flowed well, and they seemed genuinely engaged. I got an email two days later inviting me to their NYC office for the next round, with flexible date options. The HR team assigns you a buddy for questions and a schedule for the day. The day starts with a presentation, followed by interviews with partners or managers. I interviewed with people from both audit and financial advisory. We then had lunch with other candidates. Afterwards, back at the office, they asked about my preferred sections (tax, audit - commercial, real estate, not for profit) and my decision deadline. Everyone I met was really friendly and sincere!

It was a 2 round interview process and I did not get the offer. I think the interview went well. I answered all the questions properly. The interview was conducted virtually.
