First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MarkLogic.
Server Software Engineer
The interview process consisted of two technical phone interviews, followed by a full day of onsite interviews. Honestly, this company is the worst to interview with. I had a good interview and they liked my knowledge of algorithms and data structures. I already had another offer and I requested a quick decision. They said they'd get back to me within a week, but it's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything. I've emailed the recruiter and hiring manager multiple times with no response. Even when scheduling the phone interviews, I had to chase the recruiter to get a time set. I really advise against wasting your time with this company. Their product isn't great and they aren't well-known. Save your time and apply to better companies.

Associate Consultant
There were 8 rounds in total. The first two were technical phone interviews with a week between them. The first covered Marklogic Fundamentals and my background with it. The second focused on J2EE concepts I'd worked with, without any Marklogic questions. The remaining 6 rounds were scheduled in-person interviews at Washington D.C. with a clear itinerary provided beforehand, which helped me prepare. I had requested to expedite the process and have it on shorter notice due to upcoming vacation plans, and they agreed. Out of these 6, 2 were technical interviews. It was a great experience, covering both technical and non-technical aspects. All travel costs were fully reimbursed. The interview wasn't overly difficult for me because of my extensive Marklogic experience. Beginners would need significant preparation or end-to-end project experience in Marklogic; just Xquery knowledge isn't enough.
- Can you explain what a Forest is?
- What's the maximum number of Forests that can be linked to a single Database?
- Tell me about Universal Indexes.
Senior QA Engineer
First, I had a call with a recruiter, then a phone interview with her asking basic tech and behavioral questions. Next, I interviewed with the hiring manager about daily QA tasks. She then gave me a take-home assignment: install their XML server and write scripts. After that, I had a 1:1 with multiple people (QA engineer, VP, QA Manager) covering technical questions, problem-solving, and system testing. If you pass that, you go to another interview with more technical folks. I'm not sure about their 'smartest people' claim; only two out of eight impressed me.
- If you have too many test cases and not enough time, how would you approach testing a system?
- How would you test a system with thousands of test cases, but limited time to test them all?
- Can you describe your typical day-to-day responsibilities as a QA engineer?
Senior Consultant
Applied for a Senior Consultant role and went through a bunch of Skype interviews. I'm applying from Manila, Philippines. A local Headhunter sent my resume in April 2016. Had an interview in July and it's October now, and it's still not finished. The hiring process is super long! I really want to work for MarkLogic, but it feels like my application is stuck. I'm close to giving up.

- Can you tell me about design patterns?
- Do you have experience with Java Core?
