Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Markit On Demand.
Software Engineer
It started with a phone interview and then a written coding exam. The final round was an onsite interview. The interviewer was great, super friendly, and even helped me when I was stuck on a question. Overall, a positive experience. They asked a lot of questions.
- Can you explain the difference between post-increment (a++) and pre-increment (++a)?
- What is polymorphism in programming?
- How does garbage collection work in C#?
Software Engineer
So first I had a phone interview where they asked some easy conceptual stuff like Polymorphism, OOD concepts, C++ questions and an OOSE walkthrough. After that, there was a software engineering test, but I didn't score high enough to move on.
- The software engineering test was the most challenging due to the time constraints on the questions.
Associate Software Engineer
So, first I had a phone chat where they asked me about my developer background, my schooling, and some general thoughts I had on web dev stuff. Then, two days later, I got invited for an in-person interview. It was about an hour long and had two parts. The first part was mostly a chat about my past experience, how I tackle problems, teamwork, and why I'm interested in Markit On Demand. The second part was about my technical abilities. I had to code some simple problems in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and C#. They seemed more interested in how I thought through the problems and the questions I asked, rather than just getting the perfect answer.
- Can you write a JavaScript function that reverses the order of words in an input sentence?
