After applying online, I got a call back the next day, and by the end of the week, I had an in-person interview. Many people I know mentioned getting a response super fast after applying. A quick phone interview happened first where they asked a few Javascript and JQuery questions to check my skills, which then led to an in-person interview with 3 really nice Senior Developers later that week. During the in-person interview, there were some simple, standard, and easy Javascript and C# coding exercises, but they skipped the C# part since I said I had no experience with it (plus, we were running out of time and they had already seen my server-side code. I got an offer over the phone the next business day.

It started with an HR questionnaire asking about salary needs. Then, there was a 20-30 minute phone chat with the Team Lead. Passing that led to an in-person interview with a bigger panel of 4 PMs, followed by a smaller panel of 1 PM and the Team Lead. The phone part was chill, with questions about my role, why I'm leaving, my interest in Markit, and investment knowledge. The Team Lead thought I was a good fit and moved me to the in-person stage. The in-person had two parts: first, a larger panel asking a lot of questions about my IT project management experience, systems, job likes/dislikes, and teamwork. They seemed distant, like a firing squad, even though they said finance expertise wasn't crucial. They left without letting me ask questions. Then, the second smaller panel, who were late, had a relaxed vibe, similar to the phone interview, with overlapping questions. They let me ask about processes and project management software. They mentioned needing something defined but were flexible on tools for now. I left feeling good after a quick tour, but I didn't get the job. They later emailed saying another candidate was chosen and then reposted the job a couple of weeks later.

Started with recruiter calls, then hiring manager interviews by phone, and then technical screens also by phone. They didn't want to do an in-person interview because the managers are all over the world. Often, multiple people would be on the phone calls. The main difficulty was figuring out what they actually needed. The requirements weren't very clear, and the hiring manager wasn't great at explaining what they were looking for. It felt like they were just looking for someone to magically fix their workload issues, and they didn't seem to have the bandwidth to properly articulate it.

So, first I had a phone chat where they asked me about my developer background, my schooling, and some general thoughts I had on web dev stuff. Then, two days later, I got invited for an in-person interview. It was about an hour long and had two parts. The first part was mostly a chat about my past experience, how I tackle problems, teamwork, and why I'm interested in Markit On Demand. The second part was about my technical abilities. I had to code some simple problems in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and C#. They seemed more interested in how I thought through the problems and the questions I asked, rather than just getting the perfect answer.
