First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Markforged.
R&D Engineer
The interview process was quick. I spoke with HR and the hiring manager online, and then had an onsite interview, all scheduled fast. It was kind of weird they scheduled my onsite after lunch instead of inviting me to lunch, which is pretty common for tech jobs. The onsite interview itself felt disorganized. I was just shuffled from one person to the next without any proper handoff or wrap-up from the manager. I haven't heard back since.

Product Manager
I went through multiple stages for a Product Management role and was met with silence after each one, even after I followed up politely. The whole process felt unorganized and unprofessional. It’s hard to ignore the many negative Glassdoor reviews that mention the same issues: sudden layoffs, constant employee turnover, and bad communication. The company culture seemed stressed and unstable during my interviews, which makes sense given the circumstances. The company seems to be losing ground while competitors advance, which is visible in online discussions on additive manufacturing forums and Reddit. I later found out the whole product management team was laid off previously, and another round of layoffs reportedly happened shortly after my interviews, possibly including my recruiter. This explains the ghosting, and it confirms the instability. I kept going because my own company was rumored to be downsizing, but I’m glad it didn’t work out here in retrospect. If you have a stable job now, I’d be very careful. The warnings from employees and candidates are really clear. Avoid this company if you can.

Software Engineer
It was a really unprofessional experience. The recruiter strung me along and then ghosted me. I initially applied online. A recruiter got in touch and scheduled an initial call about a week later. On the day of the call, the recruiter rescheduled it for 4 hours beforehand because of an offsite work event they apparently didn't see coming. They moved it 4 days later. I accepted the new invitation. Over the next few days, it got rescheduled two more times, first for the recruiter's personal reasons, then for travel. These initial times and dates were in the middle of the workday, by the way. The reschedules were also done without checking if the new times and dates worked for me. So now it's been 6 days since the original date. I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and accepted the latest invite, though I was starting to doubt if the call would actually happen. Then the day came and went. No call. No reschedule. No email. Nothing. I emailed the recruiter, politely asked for an update in case anything got mixed up, and never heard back.

Materials Print Engineer
The whole thing took about a month, with a few small hitches. The team was really good about keeping me in the loop and respecting my time. Even though they picked someone else, they gave me some feedback. It was nice not to be ghosted, which is pretty common these days. It started with a quick call from HR. Then I had a 30-minute chat with the engineering manager, which was supposed to be on Zoom but ended up being a phone call since there was no link. The next week, over two days, I had interviews with five different people, each lasting 30 minutes. I checked in with HR about what was next. Two weeks after that, they let me know their final decision. Overall, the team seemed friendly and encouraging, and the interview process was good. I wish I'd gotten an offer, but I think this company really cares about its employees and works harder than others on their hiring.
