Analyst
I applied on Aug 22nd for an Analyst role on their Content Insights team and heard back for an interview on Sep 1st. The whole thing took about a month from application to offer. Everyone I talked to, from the recruiters to the director and VP, was really nice and seemed like they'd actually listen. They asked me stuff based on my resume and experience, not just a generic list. For the fourth interview, I had a writing test to do in 5 days, and then we talked about it on Zoom. After that, they told me the role I applied for was on hold because the department was changing, but they had an opening in custom research. I then met with their VP and got offered the job the same day! Super thankful for everyone being so great and finding me a spot even after the first role closed.
- Can you give us a brief introduction about yourself?
- What do you consider your greatest strengths as an employee?
- Could you describe your previous role or position?
Software Engineer
I got in touch with a recruiter who set me up pretty fast with a call with the manager I'd be reporting to. We had a good chat, the manager's personality is great and they were super upfront about what they expect from the role and how they see the manager-employee dynamic working. After that, I had a series of interviews with people from the engineering team. They showed me a screen mockup and asked me to explain the APIs I'd create to make it work. They also asked some other questions about backend design. There was a brief coding challenge too. Everyone on the engineering team was friendly and clearly knew their stuff technically. I didn't take the offer in the end, but it wasn't because anything was wrong with their process; they were definitely a top option.
- Can you explain how you would design APIs to support the given mockup?
- What APIs would you design to support that screen?
- Could you elaborate on your thoughts regarding backend design?
Research Apprentice
I had a nice interview at Insight! I talked to three people in a row, each for 45 minutes. They all had different backgrounds and asked various questions. Two worked in the kids area, and the third had worked in anthropology, including a trip to Peru. I liked talking to them because they seemed genuinely interested in my past experiences. After that, they asked for a blog post about a current children's media trend. I sent it in but didn't get the job. Then, a few days later, they asked me to talk to another person on the team. After a good chat with this fourth person, I didn't hear back. Despite the weird initial rejection and then being ghosted, I really enjoyed the interview process at Insight and wish you luck!
- Can you give an example of a current trend in children's media?
- Do you consider yourself more right-brained or left-brained?
Manager
It was a two stage interview process. The first was a 30-minute call with the hiring manager and senior manager, which was pretty straightforward. The second interview involved a presentation and then some questions. I wasn't impressed by the fact that there were four interviewers for one candidate, which seemed like a lack of trust, and one person from MarketCast was late. They didn't offer me the role, so I took their feedback with a grain of salt because they didn't seem to consider my experience.
- Could you tell me about your greatest achievement?
