First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marcus & Millichap.
Sales Associate
I applied on Linkedin, and a recruiter from HR called me the next day. They told me that the job was cold calling and that I wouldn't get paid for the first 6-12 months. Then, I had a Microsoft Teams interview with the same HR person a week later. After that, I had three more interviews at the office with the RM. In between these interviews, I had to call senior associates and ask them questions. They also asked me about who I called and the main points of our conversations during the interviews.
- What is your motivation for pursuing a career in CRE?
- Could you tell me why you're interested in CRE?
- What motivated your interest in CRE?
Sales Associate
It started with a phone call. They asked stuff like "Why are you interested in a career in commercial real estate" and "What is your background?". It was a 1:1 interview and pretty easy, mostly about my resume and what I want to do. I made sure to have good questions ready about the company, the market, and the specific office, which they seemed to value. There was also a personality test, just a regular multiple choice thing about how you feel about stuff, and they said to just be honest. I also met with two other associates, which was cool to see different viewpoints and show I can talk to different people. It wasn't too stressful, but I was ready.
- What qualities do you possess that would make you a valuable asset to our team?
- Are you financially prepared for an initial period of 10+ months of hard work with no salary?
Sales Associate
So the Regional Manager of the office called me back, and we talked a bit about my background, mostly why I wanted to get into commercial real estate. We played some phone tag, but eventually scheduled a time. At the end, he told me to call him back by the end of the week to confirm I was still interested. If I was, then I'd do a personality test and then a panel interview with him and two other associates.
- As a recent college grad, how do you plan to persuade a 60-year-old investor to place their financial trust in you?
