First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at March of Dimes.
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist
It was a pretty simple interview process. First, there was a phone screening, then a main virtual interview with the operations manager. They asked pretty standard questions about my past work experience. I got an update within a week.
- Can you explain what Customized Employment is and share any experience you have with individuals with disabilities?
- Tell me about your experience working with people with disabilities and what you know about Customized Employment.
Director of Development
It was a strange interview process. Started with a phone call from HR. Then a pleasant Zoom interview with the Atlanta rep. About a week later, the regional director wanted to interview me. But it turned out to be the Atlanta rep again, wanting to speak with me before the regional director meeting. The following week, I had that meeting via Zoom. It was a tough interview with pointed questions, and I didn't feel it went well. But a week later, I was contacted for an interview with the National directors. In between, I was invited to attend the "March for babies." Unfortunately, I was on vacation that week, though I felt it was a good sign and considered cutting my vacation short. The following week, I had another Zoom call with the National directors (interview #5, so I thought it had to be a good sign). I felt this interview went much better and expected an offer soon. A week later, I got a standard email saying they were passing, with no reason given. I asked the HR rep for specifics to help me with future interviews, but heard nothing back. I know they don't have to give an explanation, but after five interviews over five or six weeks, it would have been a nice courtesy.
- How would you go about choosing a chairperson for an event?
- What would you do if a board member wasn't adhering to protocol?
- How would you manage a volunteer who wasn't following instructions?
Community Manager
I was contacted by the Senior Manager via phone for an interview. We met, and the interview lasted 90 minutes. She seemed really enthusiastic and said she wanted me to come back for another interview. She asked for my availability that same week and said she'd call the next day with a time, but she never did. I emailed her to thank her and ask about a follow-up, but she didn't answer. The next week, I sent another email, again thanking her and saying I was still interested. She replied that they were still deciding and she'd get back to me personally the following week. No email from her that week either. Finally, I got a form email from HR saying they chose someone else. I was really confused because her reaction in the first interview was so positive, and she kept saying she wanted me to move forward. When I didn't hear back from my emails, I thought it was pretty unprofessional.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with this company?
- Can you describe your approach to managing and resolving conflicts within a team?
Human Resources Administrator
The interview process was pretty formal. Started with a phone interview where we mostly talked about my past experiences related to the job duties and salary. Then, there were two in-person interviews. The first was with the hiring manager (who's the HR coordinator), and the second was with the head of the department. These interviews mainly involved behavioral questions focusing on the skills needed for the role, like how I handled problems, missed deadlines, or managed urgent tasks alongside my regular duties. The second interview also included a case study.
- Can you tell me about your accounting background?
- Could you elaborate on your past experiences relevant to the job functions?
- What are your salary expectations?
