Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marathon Petroleum.
IT Business Analyst
I applied for multiple roles at Marathon and the recruiter was transparent about the process and my status. For this specific role, I had a one-hour video call with the hiring manager and one of his team members. The discussion covered general topics and allowed me to ask follow-up questions.
- Can you tell me about a time you had to convince someone to take a certain action?
Business Analyst Intern
I interviewed with two different teams, which was a total of two rounds, and ended up getting an offer two months after my first interview. They offered me a fall internship first, but I had to decline because of scheduling. Then they offered me a summer internship, which I also had to decline for scheduling reasons. Their communication wasn't the best and they were really strict on what they expected.
- Could you introduce yourself and tell me about your experience?
- Can you describe your experience level and tell me about yourself?
Business Analyst
It was a 2 round interview. First round was about my personal experiences and resume talking points, followed by technical questions about SQL and C#. The second round was more about my personality and situational cases and how I would approach them, and they also talked more about the position and my interest in the work.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience before Marathon?
- What programming or technical languages have you studied and applied in your past roles?
- What is your experience with database languages?
