First I came in for a casual chat, to see if I'd be a good fit and to get a feel for what the company is working on and how I could contribute. Since it seemed like a good match with my career goals and skills, we set up a full interview. I went to their office and met with a bunch of people from different teams and levels. They really dug into my past project experience across different areas. It was a really good, in-depth conversation. We did some whiteboard problem-solving, nothing too crazy complex, solvable in a few minutes. Then we talked about the product, the company's direction, and upcoming projects and how I could be a part of it. The HR person finished up by chatting about my career goals and if I was looking for mentorship and leadership roles, alongside the daily tasks, to make sure it all lined up for both sides. Later, they offered me the job and I accepted.

I went through two interview rounds with MapR. First was an online coding test, and the second was a phone interview. Things went well in both, and I felt good about moving forward. But then, there was silence from them after the phone interview. I reached out after about 3 weeks, and the HR recruiter told me they'd already hired someone before they even interviewed me. It's really disappointing how companies like MapR can be so insensitive to candidates, especially when we have to adjust our busy schedules for interviews. For 4 weeks, they didn't bother to let me know the outcome, and when I asked, they just said it was a 'first come, first served' hiring situation. I hope this feedback gets to their HR leadership to improve their interview process.

Coding

I passed an on-campus screening interview where I had to implement a hash table. Then I got rejected at the second round interview because I messed up a question about determining if a tree is a valid binary tree. Both rounds were 1-hour coding 1-on-1s, and I barely got any behavioral or resume questions.
