I applied through LinkedIn and got a call back within a week. The first step was a technical phone screen, which wasn't too hard. After that, I was invited for an onsite interview. The onsite part lasted about 4 hours and involved four separate one-on-one interviews. The first interview focused on my past work. The second was more technical, with questions about a recursive algorithm, LRU Cache, and finding duplicates in a list. The third interview was with the hiring manager, who talked about why I should join MapR and asked me to write a program for reading and writing huge files and how I'd scale it. The last interview was another programming session where I had to implement BFS, add line breaks after each level, and solve the clock angle problem. The whole process was enjoyable, though the extensive technical interviews were a bit tiring.

I sent in my resume online and a recruiter got in touch really fast to set up a phone chat with the hiring manager. The manager called right on time and asked some technical questions related to the job and also gave an overview of the role. After that, I had an onsite interview with 8 people, including someone from HR. Everyone was really professional and nice. They asked technical questions about the job and also explained the job functions. They made sure to answer all my questions and helped me understand the team and company better. The whole thing took just a week. The HR team did a fantastic job organizing it all, which was very impressive.

Coding Technical Behavioral

I went through two interview rounds with MapR. First was an online coding test, and the second was a phone interview. Things went well in both, and I felt good about moving forward. But then, there was silence from them after the phone interview. I reached out after about 3 weeks, and the HR recruiter told me they'd already hired someone before they even interviewed me. It's really disappointing how companies like MapR can be so insensitive to candidates, especially when we have to adjust our busy schedules for interviews. For 4 weeks, they didn't bother to let me know the outcome, and when I asked, they just said it was a 'first come, first served' hiring situation. I hope this feedback gets to their HR leadership to improve their interview process.

I had an interview with HR, then an interview with the Hiring Manager. After that, HR called me back saying they would schedule the next steps soon. It's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything back, which is really unprofessional. It seems like an older company, they don't seem to be able to compete with Cloudera or Hortonworks even though they say they are the only converged platform. They seem to be focused on an IPO or being bought out, not on growing the business or selling the tech.
