I put in my application online. First, there was a 30-minute chat with a recruiter about my experience and a couple of high-level tech questions. Then, a 30-minute technical interview with the hiring manager. The last part was an in-person meeting at their Toronto office with three team members. This part had live coding and then some technical questions.

The interview started with a 30-minute virtual screening with an HR rep. They asked about my background, my reasons for seeking a new job, and my salary expectations. I also had to present one of my Gen AI projects. They also asked what I'd do if a Gen AI solution failed, and saved 10 minutes for my questions. Next was a 60-minute virtual Technical Round 1 with the DS team. This included a 15-minute LeetCode Easy problem (coding with AI assist off), 30 minutes discussing my Gen AI experience based on my resume, 10 minutes on foundational stats and ML concepts, and 5 minutes for my questions. Finally, there was a 60-minute in-person Technical Round 2 with the VP and a Senior DS, which covered both technical and behavioral aspects.

- Could you implement LeetCode "704. Binary Search" for me? Given an array of integers nums sorted in ascending order, and an integer target, write a function to search target in nums. If target exists, then return its index. Otherwise, return -1. You must write an algorithm with O(log n) runtime complexity.

- How would you go about processing diverse types of structured data?

The interview felt more like an interrogation, very serious and the interviewer didn't seem in the mood. The questions were way above what I'd expect for an Associate Data Scientist, more like Senior Data Scientist level. This is confusing because the job description asked for internship-level experience. Compared to the title, it was really an interrogation.
