First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MANTL.
Product Manager
The interview process took about 4 hours total with different team members. I also put in about 3-4 hours of prep time for the different parts. The first call was pretty standard, just to confirm the role and salary expectations. Then I talked with the VP of Product about my background, if I'd fit the company culture, and my past work. After that, I met with the teams I'd be working with: Engineering, Project Management, Design, and other Product Managers. This was split into three one-hour sessions. The final part involved a prompt they gave me beforehand and my prepared response.
- Can you describe your decision-making process and how you'd approach decisions here?
- We'd like to hear about your past experiences and how you've handled similar situations.
- Could you outline your methodology for tackling this problem?
Product Manager
I was connected to Mantl by a third-party recruiter. The initial call with their recruiter was fine. The next round with the Hiring Manager, who might have been the Director of Product, was pretty standard. But after that, things went downhill. They mentioned they were moving into enterprise sales and gave me a homework assignment to figure out all the technical details for implementing that. The assignment was huge and incredibly deep, and frankly, illegal as NYS law prevents asking candidates to solve actual business problems without pay. It also asked for my SSN, which I told them was absurd and suggested three ways they could improve their hiring. I didn't have time to finish it then, so I offered to send them an assignment I'd done for another company. They agreed, I sent it, and then I heard nothing back. It seems like they don't know who they're looking for and are making it up as they go. They also lack professionalism and clarity in their interviewing and communication.
- Can you describe a product you launched?
Product Manager
I had a phone screen with the recruiter, then a hiring manager screen. After that, there were three panel interviews where I met with design, CS, product, engineering, and executive leadership. All of these interviews were collaborative and focused on behavioral aspects. They really wanted to understand my knowledge and have quality discussions about the team's future direction and my career aspirations.
- Can you describe your experience collaborating with design teams in your product management roles?
- How have you partnered with product stakeholders throughout your career?
- What's your experience working with engineering teams as a product manager?
