I had a phone interview with the recruiting manager, followed by another phone interview with the company IT manager. After that, I was hired and went through the public trust process. The whole thing was quick and efficient. The questions weren't too hard, and I was happy with the company and how they brought me in.

The first step was a phone screen. We did some initial introductions, got to know each other a little, talked about my recent background and relevant skills, and they gave me a quick rundown of the company culture and what they expect. The interviewer was really nice and made the whole call feel very relaxed and welcoming.

The interview started with an initial screener call. After a two-week silence, I was invited to the Herndon location to meet the hiring manager. The office seemed divided: one building looked client-ready, while the finance and pricing area felt outdated, dim, and almost like it was being prepped for a move-out, with fluorescent bulbs removed, making it very dark. Employees there seemed tired, somewhat disheveled, and the atmosphere felt chaotic, though I saw this as a potential positive, implying a busy workload. The initial meeting with the manager lasted an hour and discussed the role, but there was some ambiguity, with conflicting signals about whether they needed someone creative or just good with numbers. Unexpectedly, I was then interviewed by another manager, seemingly for a different but related position. It felt like they had multiple openings but weren't sure how candidates fit. This lack of clarity was a turn-off, as I had to repeat information only to discover the main difference was years of experience, which raised a red flag. Finally, there was a brief talk with the director. One manager was very sharp and receptive, while another was smart but arrogant and close-minded. Overall, the impression was that the positions weren't well-defined. They ultimately hired someone else.
