First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester LLP.
HR Assistant
I was referred by a recruiter. The first round was on Zoom and had a lot of technical questions. The two women I interviewed with were nice. It was a pretty formal interview since it's a law firm. The second interview was in person at their downtown LA location. They were 10-15 minutes late and seemed unprepared. One interviewer left mid-interview for a phone call, which is understandable but threw me off. Before I left, I was told they had just started second-round interviews and I'd hear back in 2-4 weeks, but I was notified the next day they were going in a different direction. I asked for feedback, and the recruiter said they didn't have any.

Attorney
We had an initial chat with a supervising attorney, then a second interview with the managing partner. It was a pretty simple process overall. They asked about my experience and my desire to grow in the role. They seemed genuinely interested in finding the right person.
- What makes you want to join our firm?
Legal Secretary
The interview process started with an HR person from California for a role in a new, small office in New York. She even called me at home on a Sunday night around 8:30 PM EST to schedule an interview, which isn't standard business practice. I told the HR person that leaving early from my current job at a small East Side firm was difficult, but I'd do my best. She scheduled the first interview in downtown New York, where I met with two attorneys. A week later, I was called back for a test. It's inconvenient to go downtown twice for interviews and testing, and then not even receive an email or letter about not getting the job. I even emailed the HR person for an update (expecting to hear I didn't get the job), but got no reply. I guess this is how they operate in California. It was extremely rude and discourteous, especially since I went out of my way to fit their schedule.
- Could you describe your skills and your capability to perform the job duties?
Paralegal
Went through 2 or 3 followup interviews for this role. It was a very long process. I met with the top partner, then other partners, and my potential paralegal boss. The office itself was very impressive. It was clear they were doing extensive screening because of previous high turnover... I'd later understand why that was the case. Definitely make sure to wear a nice suit.
- Do not remember the usual standard questions.
