First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Manchester Airports Group.
Internal Communications and Engagement Officer
I interviewed for the Internal Communications and Engagement Officer role at Stansted Airport. The process started well but ended poorly. The first virtual interview with two team members was great; they were supportive, letting me use notes, checking in, and offering prompts. The recruitment team was also good at keeping in touch. However, the second interview was very different. The panel was late, and instead of letting me present my prepared 'presentation,' they just had me sit with printed slides. It was rigid and impersonal. The panel seemed uninterested during the second interview, and when I struggled, they offered no help, making it uncomfortable. One interviewer barely acknowledged me at the end. It also seemed odd that the person I'd report to wasn't involved in reviewing my communications plan presentation.
- How do MAG's values align with your work, and how would you bring them into practice?
Graduate Programme
The interview process involved an assessment centre at HQ with many other candidates, including an overnight stay. It had a variety of assessments like group tasks/debates, inbox exercises, and a 1:1 interview. Before the assessment centre, there were psychometric tests. The assessment centre itself lasted a full day.
- Complete the inbox exercise.
- Participate in several group exercises.
- Attend a one-on-one interview.
Digital Learning Manager
It was a 3-part process, all with the Head of L&D. First, a video interview that was general chat. Then, I had a task to present in a face-to-face setting, followed by the face-to-face interview itself. It’s all the usual things you’d expect from an interview. What I’ve found truly bizarre is it’s been almost 4 weeks since my last interview and I’ve heard nothing back. I’m not silly enough to know I’ve not been offered the job but for a professional to completely ignore a candidate post-interview is really poor form and unprofessional so maybe I’ve dodged a bullet!

Customer Experience Ambassador
The interview was about an hour long, and they asked very engaging questions. The interviewers were really friendly. It took place at their office in Olympic House. There were two interviewers; one asked questions and the other took notes, but the note-taker also made conversation and made me feel very welcome. There was a role play at the end, for which they gave me some time to prepare and a prompt.
- Can you tell me about a challenging situation you faced and how you handled it?
