First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MaineHealth.
Intern
The first step was a meeting with my future manager where they asked me basic behavioral questions and about my college coursework. After that, I had a panel interview with the whole team, about 8 people. They asked similar behavioral questions. It wasn't really structured or planned out, just different team members asking their own questions. There were no technical questions.
- Can you tell me about a recent project from school that's relevant to the company's field for this internship?
HR Director
It was pretty simple. Started with a recruiter chat, then met with the hiring manager. After that, I had an on-site with various people involved in the business. They asked a lot about my experience with HR programs and how things operate, especially with the current focus on investing in the people within the company.
- Can you tell me about a situation where you implemented a change within your business?
Desktop Support Specialist
I had a chat with the hiring manager, which was good, direct, and not fluffy. It lasted about 40 minutes. The supervisor didn't say much; the manager did all the talking. I was offered the job the next day and we negotiated pay. However, before getting the offer letter, I got an email saying they were rescinding the offer and giving it to an internal candidate because they needed someone fast. My needing to attend a memorial/funeral out of state was apparently an issue. Honestly, if they think family isn't important, I think I dodged a bullet. Super unprofessional.
- What are your thoughts on customer service?
Administrative Specialist
The interview process was pretty straight forward. I got a call from one of the department heads for an initial phone interview to go over the scope of the job, then she set up an in person interview for the following week. I met with 4 ladies, all were very nice. They asked basic questions- nothing too intense, but I was a little confused at the end of the interview when one of the women walked out without a goodbye- I took that as a sign and assumed I probably didn't get the job. The job wasn't meant to be, but it bothers me when a company doesn't have the decency to send a simple email or letter saying "thanks for interviewing...we've gone with someone else", that just seems like the appropriate way to handle a prospect who took the time to come in and interview.
- How do you prioritize when you're dealing with 3-4 different supervisors who all need different things done at the same time?
- How do you handle stress?
