Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Main Event.
Event Coordinator
The interview was with the sales manager at the location. We met in the commons area before the office opened. The interview was pretty straightforward and didn't take long. The communication about setting up the initial meeting was just okay via text, and I haven't heard anything back since the interview.
- Were you seeking a leadership role at Main Event offices?
Event Coordinator
I applied online and got a call back in a few days. I came in for my first interview, which went really well. The interviewer mentioned it might take a while to hear back since I was the first of several candidates to interview. About two weeks later, I heard back for a second interview. We had to schedule it for July 4th because of our mutual availability. However, my second interviewer was not very nice and was quite rude even before the interview started. When we sat down, he started off by saying, 'Well, I'm English... that's why I'M working the 4th of July, and I don't celebrate losing!' I was so taken aback by his comment that I didn't know how to respond, leading to a few seconds of awkward silence. Then we started the interview, and it was immediately clear he wasn't interested in anything I had to say. He hardly made any eye contact and was very impersonal. It was the most uncomfortable interview I've ever had. The interview lasted less than 10 minutes. He said I'd hear back, but not surprisingly, I never did, which was probably for the best.
- Nothing unexpected was asked, besides the remarks the interviewer made.
Event Coordinator
I had a phone interview first, and then the very next day, I went in for in-person interviews. I met with three people: the lead Event Coordinator, the sales manager, and the General Manager for that location. The interviews were pretty conversational overall, and a lot of it was based on the questions I asked.
- How would you prioritize tasks if you were on the phone, responding to emails, and a customer arrived at the same time?
