Manufacturing Engineer
The interview process was good, though it took a while to hear back from the Woodbridge/Vaughan location. I got a call for an interview and had it the very next day. I talked about my resume and experience with the Manufacturing Engineer I'd be working with, and they asked me HR-type questions (some are listed below). They mentioned I'd be invited for a facility tour if I moved on to a second interview. About a month later, I got that second interview at a nearby location with another manufacturing engineer. This time, it was just about my resume and experience. The engineer then showed me around the facility and explained the intern role. After they left, I had an engineering test covering drafting/design topics. Roughly two weeks after that, they asked for references, and I got the offer about a week after that. The whole experience was pretty good, and the team seemed like a great group to work with. Both interviews were in person, so plan on driving to the office. My advice is to bring printed examples of your best work if you can and be truthful in your answers. Stay calm and talk like you're having a normal conversation. It's okay to ask for a moment to think before answering. Make good eye contact, but don't overdo it, to seem confident.
- Tell me about your greatest strength and weakness.
- How would you describe yourself in three words?
- Can you share an example of resolving a conflict at work?
Manufacturing Engineer
I applied and got a phone interview with HR about a week later. Then there was a skills test. About two weeks after that, I had an on-site interview with the Hiring Manager. Following that, I interviewed with Senior leadership, also about two weeks later. No decision was made for another two weeks. The format felt like they were interviewing multiple candidates from the start. It was a slow process and felt like they didn't respect candidates' time. There were multiple rounds of filtering, but the questions felt very similar at each step. It seemed like they were keeping multiple candidates' applications on standby. Apparently, they don't actually have positions open because of the chip shortage and OEM downtime. By keeping multiple candidates on standby, they might be able to offer lower salaries. I also heard people were laid off during covid and other OEM shutdowns, which seems counterproductive for full-time roles. I got an offer elsewhere by this point.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Do you have experience with tooling and welding?
- Describe your problem-solving approach.
Manufacturing Engineer
We started with a phone interview where they asked about my background and experience. Then, there was an in-person interview with HR where they asked situational questions and why I wanted to join this company and role. Finally, I interviewed with the department lead who asked more technical questions specific to the job.
- What makes you want to join Magna?
- Tell me about yourself and your experience.
- Why did you choose Magna and this specific role?
