Manager
The company was quick to respond at first, but that changed when I was the only one at our scheduled meeting. Two people apologized, and one offered two dates to reschedule. I gave them my availability, but then heard nothing back. While I know hiring can be hectic, not communicating is unacceptable. Please be more respectful.
- What dates work for you to meet?
Manager
I had a phone chat with the hiring manager, which went great, and they immediately set up an all-day onsite interview with about 12 people from different departments. I wasn't entirely sure what specific role they were interviewing me for during this time. I did get to see a demo of the product, which was really cool! They mentioned they were interested, and I'm still waiting to hear back.
- Can you elaborate on your general management abilities?
- Could you share some examples of your experience in management?
- Tell me about a situation where you showed leadership skills.
Manager
So I interviewed 4 times, plus an initial screening, and they never gave me a salary band. I asked about it in every interview. Every interviewer told me I was a perfect fit for the role. My final interview even went 20 minutes over, and it was natural and conversational. I could tell they and I were all genuinely excited to have found a match. My credentials are excellent. They told me I fit the culture and wanted to make an offer that I'd be excited to accept (though again, no number was given). Two weeks later, I heard nothing. I looked on LinkedIn and saw the role had been reposted. I reached out to the recruiter and didn't hear anything. I reached out to the hiring manager and didn't hear anything. Finally, the recruiter wrote back saying how great it was to meet me, how everyone genuinely enjoyed getting to know me, and how they are going with another candidate. Baffled is a gentle word for how that felt. The hiring manager also thanked me and confirmed they enjoyed getting to know me and would like to work together one day. I interviewed for over a month and was as close to being told I had an offer coming as one can get without seeing the paperwork. Please give people the courtesy of an explanation when you have them spend so much time and energy for a month jumping through hoops for you. And please. Please give a salary range at the start of the process. This really great experience turned into feeling like a huge waste of time in a hurry. Super disappointed.
- Can you tell me about your experience?
