Magellan Research Group Interview Questions
& Process

The interview process was good. Management worked with me to see how I can fit and succeed at Magellan. Communication from Senior Management was honest and transparent and I felt like all my questions were answered without the typical "bs" selling a dream that can tend to happen. It was a positive experience and everyone involved seemed very nice and welcoming throughout the process.

I applied online and then got a one-way video interview from SparkHire with 5 questions. I had only 1 minute to think and answer each question as it popped up on the screen, which wasn't much time. Then, I was invited to their NYC office for an interview, but they didn't offer compensation for travel if you didn't live there, and I spent $400. The interviewers seemed really young, like they were fresh out of college, but acted like they were too busy for me. They were unfriendly and made me feel like I was wasting their time. The questions were mostly about my resume, not really about the job. They asked about my future career goals, where I see myself in 5 years, and why I chose my education. The questions felt generic, like they were from a list of common interview questions. It felt like I was talking to a wall, with them just scribbling 'buzzwords' on my resume. I had to ask what the company/position actually did because the job description and website weren't clear. After learning more, I realized I didn't want the job. This was confirmed when one interviewer kept looking at the clock even though we still had 25 minutes left.

I applied online and got a call for a phone interview where they reviewed my resume and talked about the company. Then, I had an in-person interview. The office seemed a bit chaotic, run by people who looked like recent grads. About 45 minutes of the interview was standard, discussing my resume, experience, skills, and interests. After that, I was given a case study and a laptop and had only 15 minutes to research and prepare a presentation. They left while I was trying to do this, and then came back for my presentation. They asked some questions afterward and then thanked me. I heard back the next day that I didn't get the job.

The interview had 3 stages in total. The first two rounds went great, but the last round was with the company's Managing Director. You'd think the MD would be professional, but they weren't. They seemed unprepared and disorganized. I was asked random questions like 'What do your parents do for a living?', which I don't think relates to the job at all. Plus, the MD was yawning, which isn't a good sign during an interview. As long as you don't get interviewed by the MD, you'll probably be fine because the other people I met from the company seemed much nicer and more professional.
