First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Madewell.
Assistant Manager
I applied online and the job posting said it was full time with a $19-$29 pay range. When I got to the first interview, I found out it was actually part time with a $16-$19 pay range. It was annoying, but I still enjoyed the interview. They wanted to do a second interview, but I didn't go because I was really put off by the job listing not being truthful about the position.
- How do you feel about giving feedback to your boss?
Associate Manager
I applied on their website, which was a standard online application. After submitting, you get an email saying they'll reach out if interested. About 2-3 days later, I got an email setting up an interview for the next week, in-store at the location I applied for. The interview was pretty straightforward because it's for a management role. It lasted about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, with work-related questions and getting to know me as a leader and person. Madewell really dropped the ball though, they never followed up. I know the proper procedures, so I sent a follow-up thank you email. Another week later, another follow-up email. Two weeks after the interview date, one last follow-up email. It's one thing not to get the job, which I and many others can handle rejection, but it's just common courtesy to send a simple email letting the person know. It's really rude and says a lot about that manager and the company. Too bad.
- What is your interest in Madewell?
- Describe your ideal management style.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
Assistant Manager
It was a pretty chill interview experience. They hit me with the usual stuff like asking what I would do to be successful in the role, what I would contribute to the team, and about my general knowledge. They were good about keeping in touch throughout the whole thing. It wasn't a high-pressure situation, and I actually enjoyed talking to the people I met.
- What value would you add to our team?
