Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mad Mex.

The hiring manager contacted me and set up an interview. I arrived a little early and saw another person there, thinking they were a customer. To my surprise, the manager immediately started interviewing that person without acknowledging me. It seemed like they scheduled multiple candidates at the same time to get through interviews quickly. You could hear what was said to the previous person because the interviews were happening very close by. I found this inconsiderate as it wasn't communicated beforehand, and we had to wait around for 5-20 minutes. The interview itself was otherwise standard, with questions asked and a brief chat about the restaurant's values. However, scheduling so many people for the same hour and interviewing them in earshot of each other without notice felt unprofessional.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Do you have previous experience in hospitality?

Interviews are held in a quiet area of the restaurant during the day. The manager will ask you questions about your experience, your interest in working there, and your reasons for leaving your previous job. It's not a super tough interview; they mainly want to see what kind of person you are, if you'd fit in, do the job well, and get along with customers.
- What makes you a suitable candidate for Mad Mex?

I went in for one interview and spoke with the general manager, who was in the process of training the hiring manager. I was called back for a second interview, and then spoke with the bar manager. It was pretty low-key and easy. They offered me some food from the restaurant during the second interview to snack on while they asked questions.
