I was working at Macy's a few years back in the late 2010s. The cosmetics manager had a chat with me and asked me a few questions. Some were kinda tricky, like what I'd do if I saw someone I worked with stealing. But most were pretty standard. She was also super nice and understanding, especially since I wasn't sure how to answer some things. They get that you need to learn stuff when you're starting out. All in all, it was a really good interview experience for someone new to applying for jobs.

So Macy's interviews are usually in person. It starts with a quick hello and looking over your resume. Then they ask you stuff about helping customers, your past sales jobs, and when you can work. They like to give you pretend situations to see how you'd be with customers, if you're a team player, and how you'd manage during busy times.

I applied to Macy’s online and did their recorded interview. The next morning, I got TWO emails offering me the JOB with ONBOARDING DATES. It wasn’t an interview or a maybe, it was a solid offer. I couldn't see the offer anymore when I tried to respond because of an error. I emailed them, and an hour later, I got an automated response saying the job was closed and to look for other listings. It’s crazy how they send actual job offers with onboarding dates and then take them away within HOURS. No warning, no real person, no accountability – just an automated email saying 'tough luck'. People need job offers to plan their lives. If this is how they hire, I can’t imagine working there. Wouldn’t apply again.
