I went through a two-stage interview process. The first interview was with the PIs right after applications closed, and it was mainly for introductions and to gauge my behavior. After I presented to the research group, I had a second interview where they asked scientific questions directly related to my presentation, which was pretty straightforward. They offered me the job and asked me to visit the research group before I signed anything. Once I accepted, there was a final chat with HR to sort out the salary details.

I had a surprise Skype call on a weekend. We were on video for over an hour. It was a mix of serious and casual talk. It was pretty informal, with not many technical questions. It was easy and focused more on personality, your family background, your future plans, and your econometric skills.
