The interview happened online on Zoom for about 45 minutes. There was a panel of four people: the Head of Department from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University, and three other faculty/researchers. I wasn't allowed to use a PowerPoint or any documents during the interview, and I didn't really get enough time to talk about the stuff I had submitted when they asked questions. It felt super rushed, and the panel chair didn't seem very interested in what I was saying or my research plans. I also didn't get a chance to ask them any questions. They sent a generic rejection email about research 'alignment' within a week, which was fast. The weird thing is, the interview was mostly about teaching, like 80% of the time. Maybe I should've looked at the staff diversity more before applying, especially since the panel was all white and minorities seem underrepresented in teaching positions. But hey, at least the rejection email was quick.

I went through a two-stage interview process. The first interview was with the PIs right after applications closed, and it was mainly for introductions and to gauge my behavior. After I presented to the research group, I had a second interview where they asked scientific questions directly related to my presentation, which was pretty straightforward. They offered me the job and asked me to visit the research group before I signed anything. Once I accepted, there was a final chat with HR to sort out the salary details.
